If you have a local contractor or roofing firm coming out to inspect your roof for the first time, there are a number of things you'll want to keep in mind in order to ensure that this process goes as smoothly as possible.
Talk to the Contractor About the Size of Your Roof to Get an Idea of How Long Inspection Might Take
If this is your first time getting a roof inspection from this contractor, give them an idea of how big the roof is and any particular issues you might want them to look at. A roof inspection is not something where the contractor will be up and down in just a few minutes. You want him or her to take their time and do a good job of finding any issue, no matter how small. Make sure you block out a good chunk of time for the inspection so the contractor does not feel rushed and leaves something unchecked.
Keep an Eye on the Weather
If you scheduled your inspection weeks in advance, keep an eye on the weather ahead of the inspection day. Be Prepared to Document Any Issues Your Contractor Discovers
Have your smartphone or other camera equipment ready for the inspection. If the roof notices an issue, document the area if you can do so safely. Some issues might be covered by your home insurance and you will want photos to help prove the issue so you can get reimbursed for the repair.
