Siding Repair & Replacement Made Easy

by William Gerard

Dealing with vinyl siding that has become cracked or broken can become old. It may even seem intimidating at first. The good news is that it does not have to be. In fact, you have some options for repairing and replacing pieces of vinyl siding that just aren't cooperating anymore.

Are you ready to get started? These steps will help you get the job done.

Use a Zip Tool to Remove Broken Pieces

You can remove the broken siding with the zip tool. Beginning on one end, push the tool up and under the siding. You should feel the tool hook onto a lip on the bottom. You should then be able to slide the tool along that bottom edge, feeling the siding release from the connecting piece.

You should be able to unhook the zip tool by pulling it downward. Slide it along the edge, which will pull the siding out too. You are then able to remove additional pieces of damaged siding.

Remove Other Hardware

You then need to use a bar or another tool to get behind the siding and pull out any nails in place. These nails may still be holding the siding in place, so you may need another set of hands to help get underneath the siding.

Put Replacement Siding in Place

Now, you are ready to put new siding in place. This can be tricky, and it is one reason why so many people count on professionals with experience working on your siding.

You should be able to slide your new piece of siding into place. Push the siding up, allowing it to lock lips with the piece immediately below. You should add new nails, not far from the locations of the previous holes. You can then lock the siding in place with the zip tool

As you can see, the process can be a bit tricky. You should not try to do it all on your own if you do not have the correct tools.

Speak With a Siding Repair Professional

Vinyl siding can become damaged by falling branches, projectiles, and more. This damage can be fixed if you have access to your siding of the same color to replace the broken pieces with. If not, you may need to consult with a pro to find a good match.

A professional can help you replace your vinyl siding. In fact, you may find that a professional is the best choice for the task, especially if you are unsure how to do it on your own. Call Roofers of Minnesota Co. today to discuss your need for siding repairs.
